A New Augmented Reality Experience
Niantic’s new Pokémon GO feature, which encourages players to ‘AR scan’ their surroundings via 3D laser scanning services, is now available.
Today, Niantic announced a new feature for Pokémon GO that will reward players for scanning more landmarks in their immediate vicinity than they currently do. In addition, lightship, Niantic’s free augmented reality development kit, will rely heavily on this user-generated data as it develops its “real-world metaverse,” a virtual world that exists in the real world (ARDK).
Depending on the real-world location you’re visiting, PokéStops in Pokémon GO may include everything from your neighborhood’s mailbox to a large historic monument to a unique statue you’ve never seen before, all courtesy of 3D scanning services.
Although the database has grown significantly since the game’s launch, it was already enormous when it launched, thanks to data supplied by players of Ingress, Niantic’s first game, which was developed as a side project while Niantic was working at Google.
It is necessary to move cautiously around a PokéStop while your camera records data to perform an augmented reality scan of the location before proceeding with the scanning. Players must first complete the task to send their scan to Niantic at a later time (perhaps when they are connected to Wi-Fi). These scans are used to create a 3D global map for use in Niantic’s games and games developed by the ARDK and other companies.
Although you could scan PokéStops and Gyms in the game for some time, gamers haven’t had much reason to use it. As a result of this change, players who visit PokéStops before the power-up expires will receive better in-game prizes due to the power-up. An upgraded PokéStop will provide players with even more options for assisting them in catching Pokémon when they spin the wheel of fortune.
The visual levels for each PokéStop will be divided into three categories: level one can be achieved after five scans, level two after ten scans, and level three after twenty-five scans. Higher levels unlock more items and allow you to use power-ups for a longer period of time. While this is true for Niantic, more scans equate to higher-fidelity data.
Trainers worldwide will be able to enjoy thrilling new augmented reality experiences as a result of scanning new locations. In the long run, this will contribute to the creation of a real live Metaverse in which individuals can explore the real world while being surrounded by digital creations.
Before they are allowed to 3D laser scan a landmark on their own, players will need to reach level 20, which could serve as an anti-spam measure.
