Allowing students to see more in-depth pictures than any other form of studying online

Online learning is something that many students across the world had to switch to when COVID is running a rampage. It is not easy for many students to switch to online learning, especially in courses like biology, nursing, or anything that requires labs. Many teachers and professors have to think outside of the box to help their students understand and receive the same benefits of online learning as they would in a classroom. This is where 3D laser scanning comes in.

It can be time-consuming and tedious to create models of organs and other anatomy models.

Still, for a student, this is essential. Learning to use a 3D laser scanning device for anatomy models takes skill and time, and other ways of creating models. This device is incredibly accurate if done correctly. It allows the students to see more in-depth than pictures or any other form of studying online.

There have been many challenges for students learning online, and one of them is that they are not getting the lab time they need to be successful. Teachers that have access to 3D laser scanning are utilizing these tools to help their students. Usually, these models would be passed around from student to student to analyze and observe. There is no way to mail these human body parts to students, so using this technology is the next best thing to an in-person experience.

How this technology works

This is some of the most advanced technology we have ever created, but it wasn’t always that way. In the 1960s, when it was initially created, there were many flaws. It was hard to move the machines around and was not as accurate as possible. Since then, many of those kinks have been worked out, and it can now come as a small handheld device that is one of the most accurate machines anyone can use.

3D laser scanning wasn’t adopted until the late 1990s, it is slowly making its way throughout the world and has now hit teaching because of the way it works. This technology collects information through lasers and rapid photo taking. The lasers are being measured by the distance they travel while the photos collect information on the physical aspects.

How it helps students

Since nothing can be analyzed in person, having a piece of equipment that picks up real-time measurements can be crucial for education. It picks up things like size, texture, colors, dimensions, and more. 3D laser scanning doesn’t harm the objects and can analyze deeper than any human can.

There is less time and more accuracy than a teacher trying to replicate by their own eyes. No detail goes missed with a 3D laser scanning device. On top of that, it allows the students to zoom in and out and fully understand how the structure works. They can see every piece of the model in zoom if they need it.

Final thoughts

There is slow adoption of this technology, but once more, professors see the wonderful use. How well the kids are learning, thanks to 3D laser scanning it will be adopted faster. This is a time of resilience and learning how to do things differently than in the past. This technology is helping in many different fields and helping us find our new normal.
