The Inside Of A Famous Statue

In Rio De Janeiro, Brazil, one of the most famous statues of all time has just let us inside for the first time. This is an iconic figure known throughout the world as Christ the Redeemer. It is impeccably high and tall and one of the most significant and tallest statues of Jesus Christ. Its completion date was in 1931 and stands high above the city. It took many collaborators to build this statue, and now we are focused on preserving this statue because of its rich history.

A team could capture 180 cloud points with a 3D laser scanning device, allowing them to create an internal and external model. This model is like one we have never seen before; we have never seen this statue’s internal structure or how it was put together so well. This project was done right before the 90th restoration project began.

This project was done with GeoSLAM, and they adopted their latest 3D laser scanning device and an aircraft that did not have to be manned. They were able to attach the 3D laser scanning to the shuttle and fly it around the monumental figure to give us a look at never being there for information. We can see the inside mapping as well as the entire structures outside. The entire project was done outside in 45 minutes, and they were able to successfully close off the site to the public at that time.

Who is GeoSLAM

This is a company that excels in geospatial software. They have created numerous 3D laser scanning devices that can help take on historical projects in a smaller amount of time. There is no way to get accurate measurements of the inside of Christ the Redeemer by hand. That is why this team set out using the newest tool from GeoSLAM, a company that was founded in 2011.

How does their technology work

3D laser scanning is some of the most advanced technology in the world and has been updated since it came out in the 1960s. GeoSLAM was founded in 2011, and their products reflect the times and need for better technology.

This tool takes hundreds or thousands of pictures of an object or scene, and it also collects data points at the same time. It uses that information to help create an accurate model that can be turned into virtual reality. This allows us to access all of the information we would never be able to see with just our eyes.

It collects information like size, shape, color, textures, and all dimensions. This small scanning device can scan massive structures. The best part of this tool is that it is lightweight enough to be strapped to a machine controlled from somewhere else.

Final thoughts

3D laser scanning is one of the best tools to use on historical sites because it is entirely non-invasive and will not put anyone’s life at risk. It helps capture full pictures and allows for a complete virtual model to be made. It helps us take a peek behind the scenes and can also help with restoration projects.
