Large Object 3D Scanning

Get a CAD model for Machines, Vehicles, Sculptures and more

  • 3D laser scanning is a universal tool for scanning just about anything. If your object or machine is as big as a car or larger, we can capture it using highly portable tripod-mounted scanners that can scan the object where it sits. Scan results can be provided in fabrication-friendly formats such as STP and Solidworks. Some common applications include:
  • Capturing surfaces for analyzing flatness
  • Capturing shapes for re-modeling
  • Reverse engineering legacy parts or molds
  • Artistic projects such as sculptures

What types of large objects can be scanned?

In truth, just about anything! If the scanner can see it, it can be scanned. Here are some examples of large objects that can be scanned:

    Executive Jet Aircraft
    Entire Aircraft
    tree 3D scanning services
    Trees
    turbine blade 3D scanning services
    Wind Turbines
    car digital 3D model
    Cars and Trucks
    helicopter 3D scanning
    Helicopters
    boat 3D scanning
    Boat Hulls
    tank 3D scanning
    Tanks & Vessels
    staircase 3D scanning services
    Staircases
    Eagle Statue
    Statues

    How accurate are the results?

3D scanning is accurate up to 1mm for most applications, but depending on which scanner is used, accuracy in the 1 mm range is achievable.  We select the most efficient scanning method that can meet your minimum accuracy requirement. By identifying the least amount of accuracy that you can live with, we can optimize the process to save you money.

Why do companies scan large objects?

    Common reasons include:

    • To archive or reproduce molds, fixtures and tooling
    • Document and preserve hand-built designs
    • Reverse-engineer a part that has no drawings
    • Duplicate a part
    • Re-create a part using new methods such as 3D printing
    • Inspect parts for accurate manufacturing
    • Create drawings and prints for government certification
    • Obtain models for FEA and CFD simulation
    • Create a new mold for forming tool for a par

    What our customers saying

    3D CAD modeling

What can you do with a 3D model created by large object 3D scanning services?

Because of the high quality models produced during the reverse engineering process, the models happen to be very versatile. Among the many things that are possible:

    • Machining & molding
    • 3D printing
    • Making changes to the design
    • Create 2D Drawings
    • Exploded 3D visualizations and animations
    • Comparisons with other parts or scans
    • Can be used to design mating parts or packaging
    • Drawings can be sent overseas for manufacturing instead of the part

Alternatively, you can just keep the 3D model for safekeeping as documentation for future reference knowing, should the part ever be lost or destroyed, that you have sufficient information build another one. The sky is the limit as to what you can do once the object is in its digital form.
