3D Laser scanning is used to create 3D models of everything from landscapes and structures to vehicles and small parts. Once the raw scan data is acquired, CAD softare is used to turn that point cloud into a usable digital model. Various software applications can be used for 3D modeling, creating 3D environments and digital twins, wireframes, BIM, and generating the necessary output files for 3D printing. Trying this on your own can be a fascinating learning experience, so we’ve collected some files in a variety of formats for you to explore.
Here are a few of the types of output files that can be obtained from 3D laser scanning. Feel free to download and test the file formats with your software. Please note that these are very basic, low quality examples and do not reflect the potential high detail, resolution and accuracy that is possible with modern scanners.
These files are for testing and personal use only. Please do not publish or distribute.
